ERC Consolidator and ERC Advanced Grants

Did you complete your PhD between seven and twelve years ago? Do you have a ground-breaking research topic that you wish to pursue? Then apply for an ERC Consolidator Grant. Are you an established researcher with an outstanding long-term track record and a promising research idea? Then the ERC Advanced Grant would be the right grant for you. Through these grants, the European Research Council of the European Union supports excellent researchers of any nationality and from any discipline.

Information on the Consolidator Grant:

Who can apply?

Requirements for applicants include the following:

  • PhD completed no fewer than seven and no more than twelve years ago
  • a promising academic track record, as demonstrated for example by several important publications not involving the applicant's doctoral supervisor
  • a ground-breaking research idea
  • the application is submitted in conjunction with an institution based in an EU member state or associated country

What form does funding take?

The main scholarship benefits are as follows:

  • funding of up to two million euros is normally granted for a period of max. five years
  • additional funding of up to 1 million euros may be granted, for example to allow large-scale equipment to be purchased

When is the closing date for applications?

Applications can be submitted until 17 March 2022.

Information on the Advanced Grant:

Who can apply?

Requirements for applicants include the following:

  • significant research achievements in the past ten years
  • depending on specialist field: several publications as lead author in major international journals, monographs, patents, conference presentations, research expeditions, involvement in the organisation of international conferences and recognition in the form of academic awards or memberships in renowned academies
  • applications must be submitted jointly with an institution in an EU Member State or associated state

What form does funding take?

The main scholarship benefits are as follows:

  • a maximum of 2.5 million euros for a period of five years
  • in exceptional cases, up to 1 million euros in additional funding on a one-off basis

When is the closing date for applications?

Applications can be submitted until 28 April 2022.
