Doctoral scholarships from the Hector Fellow Academy

Innovative research projects: the Hector Fellow Academy offers you the opportunity to realize a self-developed research project under supervision of one of the Hector Fellows or to apply for an advertised position with one of them. The Hector Fellows are a community of outstanding professors from different research institutions across Germany working in STEM subjects, medicine and psychology. In addition, you have the possibility to do your doctorate with an Hector RCD Awardee. Hector RCD Awardees are excellent young scientists on their way to professorship and members of the Hector Fellow Academy.

This year, the following Hector Fellows are available to supervise young scientists in the Hector Fellow Academy PhD programme:

Who can apply?

Requirements for applicants include the following:

  • excellent academic performance
  • very good master’s degree in the relevant field and a very good knowledge of English
  • willingness to move to the university location of the supervising Hector Fellow, if necessary
  • an innovative project proposal developed by the applicant within the research spectrum of a Hector Fellow or an application for a vacant position advertised by a Hector Fellow

What form does funding take?

The main scholarship benefits are as follows:

  • opportunity to realize a self-developed research idea or to work on an advertised PhD project
  • mentored by an internationally renowned, top-level scientist
  • funded position (according to TV-L 13, up to 100%, based on the funding rates of the DFG for PhD students) for 3 years with the possibility to extend for one year (3+1)
  • extensive research funding
  • membership in an excellent research network
