International PhD Program at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ)

Do you have a Master of Science degree and would like to do a PhD in cancer research? Then take a look at the International PhD Program at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ). The DKFZ is Germany’s largest biomedical research institute and a member of the Helmholtz Association, the largest research organisation in Germany. The long-term goal of the DKFZ is to unravel the causes and mechanisms of cancer development and to identify novel tools for diagnosis, treatment and prevention. The DKFZ offers an international and dynamic work environment, providing you with access to state-of-the-art research facilities and exceptional resources.

Who can apply?

Requirements for applicants include the following:

university diploma/master's degree (MSc or equivalent) with excellent grades
excellent English language skills
two letters of recommendation

PhD students at the DKFZ typically have a background in (molecular) biology, molecular medicine, (bio-)chemistry, (bio-)physics, computer science, computational biology or epidemiology/public health studies.

What form does funding take?

The main scholarship benefits are as follows:

PhD students at the DKFZ are fully funded for the duration of their PhD.
There are no tuition fees.
The typical duration is three years, during which time PhD students participate in the International PhD Program.

When is the closing date for applications?

The closing dates for applications are 15 May and 15 December each year.
