PhD scholarships from the Wüstenrot Stiftung

Is your research project concerned with topics such as monument preservation, architecture and urban planning in the 20^th and 21^st centuries, or urban and housing sociology? Is your PhD based at a university in Germany? Then apply for a PhD scholarship from the Wüstenrot Stiftung (only in German). The foundation is committed to the preservation of cultural heritage in Germany, especially of those cultural goods dating from the period after 1945.

Who can apply?

Requirements for applicants include the following:

the PhD relates to one of the following disciplines: monument and cultural heritage preservation and education, architecture and urban planning in the 20^th and 21^st centuries, sustainable urban and rural development, urban and housing sociology, or urban, regional and national planning
the university degree required for a PhD must have been completed by the age of 30

What form does funding take?

The main scholarship benefits are as follows:

a basic stipend of 1,400 euros per month is paid, as is an additional allowance of 150 euros to cover material costs plus a family allowance
funding is provided for a period of two years and can be extended by twelve months upon application
annual colloquia give scholarship holders the opportunity to present and discuss their research work

When is the closing date for applications?

There are two application deadlines per year: 1 May and 1 November. The next closing date for applications is 1 May 2022.
