The "TUM Autonomous Motorsport" team can celebrate a great success: their vehicle brought them the victory in an international competition of AI-controlled race cars – by travelling up to 300 kilometres per hour completely without a driver. Apart from this, discover many more articles about interesting people and places in Germany, current funding programmes for international researchers and upcoming career events. With an average speed of 218 kilometres per hour, the Technical University of Munich team's car made the fastest time and won the young researchers first place and a cash prize of one million US dollars. Nine teams from universities around the world competed against one another in this race completely without drivers.

Recent activities
The third Innovation Week took place from 15 to 19 November 2021. A coaching and networking format, it supports young international founders with putting their start-up ideas into practice. German universities and investors are on hand to provide advice.

12.7% international academic staff at German universities

Stats & numbers
In 2019, around 51,800 academic staff with foreign citizenship were employed at German universities. Most of them came from Western European, Asian and Pacific countries. The recent publication "Wissenschaft Weltoffen 2021" presents many more interesting facts and figures on the international nature of studies and research in Germany and worldwide. The English full version will be released this week.

PhD scholarships at the NHR Graduate School of the NHR Alliance (NHR-Verein e.V.)

The NHR Graduate School offers nine PhD scholarships in the field of high-performance computing to national and international applicants. Applications can be submitted until 15 December 2021.

Networking Tour in Artificial Intelligence

Twice a year the DAAD selects a group of outstanding early career researchers to meet with leading researchers and visit the research hotspots in Germany. The call for the AInet 3/2022 in AI and Robotics is now open for applications until 11 January 2022.

International Climate Protection Fellowship

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation awards its International Climate Protection Fellowship to prospective leaders and postdocs with climate expertise from developing countries and emerging economies. Applications for a research stay at a host institution in Germany can be submitted until 1 February 2022.

Walter Benjamin Programme

The Walter Benjamin Programme of the German Research Foundation (DFG) supports the mobility and thematic development of postdoctoral researchers. Applications can be submitted at any time.
