PhD at a university of applied sciences

Can I do a PhD at a univeristy of applied sciences?

The university laws of most federal states in Germany enable a cooperative PhD programme, in which both a university of applied sciences and the professor of a university with the right to award doctorates supervise and examine a PhD student.

The admission procedure for doctoral students is not regulated uniformly within Germany, but individually in the doctoral regulations of the universities, which in turn are the responsibility of the faculties.

In general, admission to a doctorate requires a master's degree (or a comparable degree) in a subject area that can be assigned to the planned dissertation topic. The master's degree must be completed with above-average grades.
