Webinar I: Career Paths to a Professorship in Germany – What to know, what to expect

Many researchers consider a professorship in Germany, but the path towards it often remains unclear.

In this joint webinar by GSO and the Deutsche Hochschulverband, Anne Schreiter (GSO) will be in conversation with Katharina Lemke (DHV), who brings deep expertise on academic careers and appointment processes in Germany.

Together, they unpack what it actually takes to move towards a professorship, especially for international researchers navigating a system that is not always transparent from the outside.

We’ll address key questions such as:

  • What does it mean to be a professor in Germany in practice?
  • What are typical (and less visible) career paths?
  • What is specific to the German system?
  • What really matters in selection processes?
  • What are realistic timelines and common pitfalls?
  • And how can you decide whether this path is right for you?

If you already have questions in mind, feel free to send them in when registering, there will also be a dedicated Q&A during the webinar.
