In brief

This programme funds attendance of language and area studies courses as well as special language/terminology courses offered by state or state-recognised German universities and affiliated language schools.


Who can apply?

Students in Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes (all disciplines). Bachelor students must have completed at least two academic years.


Further requirements

The courses are taught exclusively in German.


Type and extent of funding

University summer courses: one-off scholarship payment of 1,061 euros; scholarship holders from Least Developed Countries receive a scholarship of 1,236 euros. Payment of a country-specific travel allowance (if applicable) and payments towards health, accident and personal liability insurance cover.



University summer courses: minimum of 18 teaching days. The courses usually take place in the period from June to November.



The application for a scholarship must be submitted online through the DAAD website. You can access the application portal through the scholarship database. Some documents need to be sent separately by post. Application details vary from country to country. For country-specific information on addresses and deadlines please check the programme website.
