Centre for the History and Culture of East Central Europe (GWZO)

The Centre for the History and Culture of East Central Europe (Geisteswissenschaftliches Zentrum Geschichte und Kultur Ostmitteleuropas – GWZO) at the University of Leipzig is a research institute commited to international cooperation and multidisciplinary approaches. GWZO focuses on the comparative research into the history and culture of territories between the Baltic, the Black and the Adriatic Seas from the Early Middle Ages up to the present day. At present approx. 50 fellows from Germany and abroad take part in several research projects.
