Are you conducting research in the historical humanities? Do your university grades and exam results show you to be exceptionally gifted? Is your dissertation expected to be well above average? Then apply for a PhD scholarship from the Gerda Henkel Foundation . Funding is available for research projects in the following fields in particular:
- archaeology
- history
- historical Islamic studies
- art history
- history of law
- prehistory and early history
- history of science
Who can apply?
Requirements for applicants include the following:
- aged below 29 as a rule
- above-average grades at university
- university degree grade of 1.5 or better in Germany; foreign degrees will be reviewed separately
What form does funding take?
Funding is normally provided for a period of two years; the funding period can be extended by up to twelve months if a child is born during the term of the scholarship and the scholarship holder is entitled to maternity or paternity leave. Scholarship holders receive a basic monthly stipend of 1,400 euros. In addition, family and international grants as well as travel and material allowances may be provided.
When is the closing date for applications?
Applications can be submitted at any time. The foundation’s boards meet four times a year to make the scholarship award decisions.
