Research in industry

Research does not only take place in universities and non-university research institutes. In fact, industry provides over two thirds of the funds that Germany invests in research and development every year. As a result, the highest number of jobs for researchers are based in industry. Research here takes into account practical concerns and is frequently also conducted in partnership with universities and non-university research institutes.
Industrial companies, especially in the automotive, chemical and electronic sectors, are strongly engaged in application-oriented research and development (R&D). They offer international junior researchers a well-equipped working environment, interesting research areas, good pay and usually long-term prospects with opportunities for promotion within the company.
